Akufo-Addo Has Delivered All His Promises – Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has claimed that the Akufo-Addo-led government has kept its commitments to Ghanaians, despite ex-President Mahama’s claims to the contrary.

According to Oppong Nkrumah, the administration fulfilled its pledge of developing a robust economy, as seen by the country’s good economic performance prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stated that once the impacts of the pandemic fade, there is a good signal that Ghana would resume its robust economic performance seen in the first three years of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.

“The campaign was waged on the promise of bringing back economic growth, with over one million beneficiaries out there; it is something that every Ghanaian who is being honest sees straight in the face.”

“Average growth in the first three years of the Akufo Addo administration was 7%, 5.4 percent last year as we began to recover from COVID, and it was COVID that brought us down.” This year’s projection is fairly clear: we’ll be doing a lot of 5%, and we’ll be back to 7% in no time.

“The campaign was run on the promise of getting Ghana out of the IMF and onto the route of self-sufficiency, and today the evidence is out there that we did move Ghana out of the fund program and onto the path of self-sufficiency… On the Asaase Radio Breakfast show, the minister is reported as saying, “the evidence is fairly obvious that a major amount of what was promised in the 2016 campaign has been achieved.”

This comes after former President John Dramani Mahama said at the National Democratic Congress’s ‘Ghana at a Crossroads’ event that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership had drove the country into a ditch after making lofty promises to Ghanaians.

“… Nana Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promised to transform Ghana in 18 months, growing the economy by double digits, reducing borrowing, ensuring fiscal discipline, lowering the cost of living, lowering taxes, and protecting the public purse.”

“They also promised to move Ghana away from taxation and toward production.” In reality, none of these goals have been met. Instead, Ghanaians have suffered terrible difficulties and deprivation as a direct result of the government’s economic mismanagement, which lacks the humility to accept responsibility and the capacity to properly identify the core causes of the problems that have brought us here,” he continued.

Mahama further said that the Akufo-Addo administration failed to build on the good foundation that his predecessor had laid, and that it squandered the massive resources at its disposal.
