A Chief of Staff in the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpianim has said government’s decision to acquire a new presidential jet is a good move.
Speaking on Citi news he said as long as the payment terms are prudent then government must go for it.
“It will depend on the terms. For example, if you are going to take about GHS 20 billion from your coffers to buy a jet now, I would say don’t do it,” he explained.
“As a country, you have to look at it and ask if we need it or not. At that time we thought we needed it, from our own experience.”
On the payment, plan Mr. Mpianim said “we had a credit term to pay this over some time which was not going to inconvenience the budget.”
Meanwhile the Minority in Parliament has sad they’ll not be giving their consent to government to purchase the new private jet.
“The Akufo-Addo administration will not get the support of the NDC in purchasing a new aircraft. We are not convinced that there is anything wrong with the current jet,” he said.
“The President and his ministers have not been transparent and accountable enough. This whole business of leading aircraft is borne out of an insatiable appetite for luxury. We are not going to endorse, collaborate and support anything that only seeks to advance the president’s insatiable appetite.”
