A/R Chief Imam And Muslim Youth Leader Confront Each Other Over NDC’s Zongo Mortuary Promise

The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam and Muslim youth leader in the area have shared sharp differences regarding the manifesto promise by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to provide zongo communities with mortuaries.

Speaking on Akoma FM’s GhanAkoma morning show, the Chief Imam, Sheik Abdul Mumin Haruna insisted the idea of building a mortuary is a lost priority for the zongo community.

“Our main focus as Muslim leaders and the community in general is education. We don’t need mortuaries but we need schools. Mortuaries become necessary for Muslims when a member dies under peculiar conditions that need extra postmortem and investigation. Why will you build mortuaries when others are building houses and schools?” he quizzed.

However, the regional Muslim youth leader, Alhaji Sadat Mohamed who disagreed with the Chief Imam phoned into the show to challenge him.

“We the youth believe that the mortuaries will really help the Muslims. The Sheikh has said his mind but it doesn’t represent the view of the whole Muslim community in the region,” he said.

The John Mahama 2020 campaign team has however described media reports that suggested the former president stated in an interview on TV XYZ that he’ll build mortuaries for zongo communities in his next term as misleading and inaccurate.
