The Association of Small Scale Miners at Obuasi in the Ashanti region have stated they cannot trust former president John Dramani Mahama to deliver their seized excavators back to them.
Speaking on the Morning Starr Tuesday, Secretary of the small scale miners at Obuasi, Haruna Seidu Aboagye oted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also seized their excavators when they were in power therefore they cannot believe them.
“We don’t believe the NDC will return our missing excavators. They [NDC] seized our excavators in the past and NPP has done same so we don’t believe them. What we need as an association is proper arrangement when acquiring land, equipment, and an environment to sell our gold,” Mr Seidu said.
This comes after the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama during the party’s manifesto launch yesterday promised to return all missing and seized excavators back to its owners if elected into government on December 7.
He stated, “we’ll retrieve the concessions and give them back to the rightful owners. We’ll make laws such that the country will benefit from the mining without destroying our lands and water bodies.”
