President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated four 40-bed district hospitals in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, advancing the government’s mission to enhance healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
The newly commissioned facilities, located in Drobonso, Sabronum, Twedie, and Suame, are part of a broader initiative to construct 12 hospitals across the Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions, along with a polyclinic in the Brong Ahafo region.
This ambitious project, launched in 2020, was financed through a €71.5 million loan secured from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna a.s. The hospitals were designed and built by Austrian firm VAMED Engineering GmbH and are equipped with cutting-edge amenities, including outpatient departments, public health units, surgical theatres, and staff accommodations.
With these additions, eight hospitals under this initiative have now been completed, following earlier inaugurations of district hospitals in Fomena and Kumawu.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
Each hospital features a comprehensive array of services designed to provide high-quality healthcare. These include:
- An Outpatient Department (OPD) with consulting rooms and spacious waiting areas.
- A Public Health Department equipped with a 36-seat waiting area, three antenatal consulting rooms, a counseling room, and offices for public health officers.
- A Theatre comprising a surgical suite, an 8-bed pediatric ward, 8-bed male and female wards, four labor delivery stations, an 8-bed maternity ward, and recovery rooms.
These modern facilities aim to meet the healthcare needs of residents in the respective districts and improve access to quality medical care.
Commitment to Maintenance
During the commissioning ceremonies, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of properly maintaining the new hospitals to ensure their longevity and effectiveness. He called on hospital staff and local communities to take responsibility for preserving the facilities, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes for all Ghanaians.
This milestone reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery through strategic investments in infrastructure, positioning Ghana as a leader in accessible and equitable healthcare in the region.
