The Ghana Armed Forces have declared their unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and order during the December 7 elections. Lt. Col. Jacob Codjoe, Commander of the Jungle Warfare School in Achiase near Oda, has issued a firm warning to individuals planning to disrupt the electoral process, emphasizing that any such attempts will be decisively addressed.

Addressing a public forum in Oda, Lt. Col. Codjoe assured the community that the military stands ready to intervene should law enforcement agencies be unable to maintain order. “I will only come to the Akyemansa area on December 7 if the police inform me they cannot handle the situation. And when I come, I won’t arrive empty-handed. I will ensure discipline,” he said emphatically.

The commander further challenged potential troublemakers, stating, “I always encourage people to test our resolve. On election day, if anyone dares to create chaos, my team and I will not hesitate to act decisively.”

Guidance for Voters

Lt. Col. Codjoe also provided guidance to voters, urging them to conduct themselves responsibly. He advised citizens to cast their votes and leave polling stations promptly to avoid unnecessary gatherings. “After voting, go home and wait. Return at 5 p.m. to observe the counting process. If your candidate wins, celebrate peacefully and go home,” he advised.

His message stressed the need for maintaining order, adding, “Our aim is not to create conflict but to protect the peace Ghana currently enjoys. We will not allow a handful of individuals to jeopardize the country’s stability.”

Safeguarding Ghana’s Peace

The commander underscored the significance of national peace, describing it as Ghana’s most valuable asset. “As security personnel, citizens, and members of religious and family groups, we all have a responsibility to safeguard the peace that enables progress in our nation,” he noted.

Lt. Col. Codjoe acknowledged that while security forces are prepared to act firmly, their actions will be guided by a commitment to preserving the country’s democratic stability. “The peace we have now is essential for our development. If it is disrupted, everything else will collapse,” he stated.

Concerns Over Electoral Tensions

His remarks come amid heightened tensions ahead of the polls, with allegations of electoral fraud and threats of violence adding to the charged political atmosphere. The two leading parties—the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC)—are locked in a tight race, with both sides emphasizing the importance of a fair and transparent process.

As Ghana approaches this pivotal election, security forces, citizens, and international observers remain hopeful that the country’s democratic tradition will prevail. Lt. Col. Codjoe’s firm stance reflects the military’s readiness to uphold the peace, sending a clear message to any individuals planning to disrupt the process: such actions will not be tolerated.
