The Sekondi High Court, under the direction of Justice Gyan-Konto, has ruled in favor of Joana Gyan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, by lifting the interlocutory injunction that had been placed on her candidacy. The decision, issued today on November 11, 2024, enables Gyan to proceed as the NDC candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Gyan’s candidacy had faced obstacles following allegations by certain individuals that she submitted forged documents to qualify for her party’s primaries. This led to her disqualification by the Electoral Commission and the imposition of an interlocutory injunction on her campaign.
The situation arose after the NDC conducted a second round of primaries for the Amenfi Central constituency, having nullified the initial election. Gyan emerged as the winner of the re-run after the incumbent Member of Parliament, Peter Kwakye-Ackah, withdrew from the race.
Following today’s court ruling, Joana Gyan expressed deep gratitude for the outcome. In a statement to the media, she shared, “I am overjoyed and grateful to God for this positive turn of events. My new legal team played a pivotal role in resolving this matter, and I’m thankful for their expertise. This experience has shown that even those you trust most can sometimes bring you challenges. I extend my heartfelt appreciation to my supporters, constituents, and the entire NDC party for standing by me. We’re now focused on moving forward with our campaign launch and the electoral process. Thank you all.”
With the court’s decision, Gyan can now fully participate in the electoral race, aiming to represent Amenfi Central in the 2024 elections.
