National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag-bearer John Dramani Mahama has openly criticized the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly favoring regions that supported the party electorally, a practice he says undermines the fair distribution of national resources. He made these remarks on November 4 during his two-day campaign tour in the Oti Region.
Mahama argued that this approach by the NPP has led to significant regional imbalances in development, with less attention given to areas where the party received less support. He pledged that, if elected, he would ensure that all regions, including the Oti Region, receive equitable development investments, regardless of electoral outcomes.
In Biakoye, Mahama remarked on what he believes is President Akufo-Addo’s growing acceptance of a potential NPP loss in the upcoming elections. He cited Krachi East as an example, where he claims the NPP failed to build regional hospitals due to the area’s lack of electoral support for the party. Mahama assured the people of Krachi East that the NDC would fulfill its infrastructure promises if given the mandate.
The NDC presidential candidate’s tour included a stop at Dambai in Krachi East, where he was warmly received by local chiefs and supporters. At the event, Nana Mprah Besemuna III, the Chief of Dambai, expressed appreciation for the previous educational and healthcare infrastructure projects implemented under Mahama’s administration. The chief emphasized the need for a regional hospital in Krachi, urging Mahama to prioritize this if he returns to office.
In response, Mahama acknowledged the region’s concerns and reaffirmed his commitment to bridging the development gaps across all regions of Ghana. He vowed to prioritize essential infrastructure projects that would enhance the quality of life for people in neglected areas and ensure fair resource distribution across the country.
