In an unexpected announcement, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse and President of the Ga Traditional Council, has withdrawn his bid for the presidency of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs. His decision, communicated in an official letter dated October 24, 2024, was directed to the Registrar of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs.

The Ga Traditional Council, one of twelve traditional councils in the Greater Accra Region, presides over the Ga Traditional Area, encompassing areas like Tema and Ashaiman. The Council is responsible for guiding cultural observances, including the annual ban on noise-making and restrictions on funerals to protect the cultural heritage of the Ga-Adangbe people.

In his statement, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs and extended his best wishes to King Odaifio Welentsi III, a candidate in the upcoming election for the presidency. This surprising decision has generated keen interest within the region, especially among traditional leaders and stakeholders invested in local leadership.

The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs, one of Ghana’s Regional Houses of Chiefs, plays a significant role in the preservation and promotion of traditional values, serving as a forum for representatives from various traditional councils in the region. Oversight for Ghana’s chieftaincy and religious sectors falls under the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, established in 2017 to foster peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and national development among traditional communities.

The Ministry is committed to promoting harmony and collaboration among traditional leaders to strengthen community ties and uphold customs, demonstrating the value of traditional leadership within the national framework.
