The 2024 Ghana Energy Awards, set for Friday, October 25, 2024, promises to be a highlight event in Ghana’s energy sector, bringing together a wide array of professionals who have contributed to the development of the country’s petroleum, power, and renewable energy industries. Organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Media Group, this year’s event, themed “The Role of Local Content in Building Ghana’s Energy Sector,” will celebrate the achievements of those who have played key roles in shaping the industry.
Distinguished guests include Oguamanhene Osaabarima Kwesi Atta as Special Guest of Honor, Former Chief Justice Georgina Wood, Minister of State for Energy Herbert Krapa, and Andrew Vicker from the World Energy Council.
Among the notable nominations for this year’s awards is Ing. Richmond Alamu, nominated in the Rising Star Individual category. He is currently the Asset Integrity and Maintenance Manager at Ghana National Gas Limited, where he has led critical projects that have saved significant costs, such as the 2024 Maintenance Shutdown that resulted in a $16 million savings. Alamu, a seasoned mechanical engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, is also pursuing a PhD in Petroleum Engineering at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, UK, and holds degrees from South Bank University and the University of Mines and Technology, Ghana.
Alamu’s expertise spans key roles in the construction of the Ghana Gas Processing Plant in Canada, participation in Factory Acceptance Testing (FATs) for major equipment, and leadership in multiple shutdown maintenance operations. His leadership skills extend beyond his technical work, having served as Chairman of the Senior Staff Association at Ghana National Gas Limited for nine years.
