John Mahama Pledges Swift Cabinet Appointments and Lean Government Structure if Elected

Former President and Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to swiftly appoint his cabinet ministers within 14 days if he wins the upcoming general elections on December 7, 2024. In addition to timely ministerial appointments, Mahama has pledged to form the leanest and most efficient government in Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Mahama made these remarks in a Facebook post on Monday, October 14, as he embarked on a three-day tour of the Upper West Region. During the tour, he met with traditional leaders, including chiefs and queen mothers, and engaged in discussions on issues concerning the region.

“The questions and issues of concern to the members of the Regional House of Chiefs cut across all sectors of the economy,” Mahama noted in his post. He emphasized that the interaction provided him with an opportunity to outline his “first 120 days Social Contract” with the people of Ghana, reinforcing his vision to “Build the Ghana We Want Together.”

Central to this vision, Mahama pledged to nominate his full list of cabinet ministers for parliamentary approval within the first 14 days of assuming office. He also committed to forming a streamlined and effective government team within the first 90 days, emphasizing his determination to establish “the leanest and most efficient government under the Fourth Republic.”

In addition to these governance reforms, Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s focus on accountability. “Our commitment to accountability will be unwavering,” he said. He outlined plans to introduce a robust code of conduct and standards for all government officials, ensuring integrity and transparency in public service.

Mahama also highlighted his intention to hold a National Economic Dialogue, a key platform for discussing the true state of the economy. This initiative would bring together stakeholders to develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation program aimed at guiding the national budget.

The former president’s remarks are part of his broader campaign strategy to address economic challenges and promote good governance as he seeks to reclaim the presidency.
