Chief Justice Angry Over Manipulation By Court Staff

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has voiced concerns about the handling of land litigation cases in Ghana’s courts, drawing attention to instances of corruption within the Judicial Service. She pointed to the exploitation of land-related documents by some Judicial Service staff, who manipulate these documents in favor of individuals in exchange for bribes.

Speaking during the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Judicial Service Staff Association in Cape Coast, Justice Torkornoo condemned this unethical behavior, calling for an immediate end to these practices. She urged Judicial Service employees to uphold the highest standards of public service and work to change the public perception of corruption within the judiciary.

The Chief Justice also expressed concern about the rising involvement of some court staff in criminal activities, including the production of fraudulent divorce documents and false letters of administration. These actions, she noted, deplete the accounts of deceased individuals, robbing rightful beneficiaries of their inheritance. She warned that such practices not only harm the public but also contribute to delays in the delivery of justice.

Justice Torkornoo’s call for reform aims to restore integrity and efficiency within the Judicial Service, ensuring that justice is served fairly and without undue delay.
