Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of the Asante Kingdom, has made his first official visit to King Charles III since the latter’s coronation in March 2023. The visit occurred on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at King Charles’ Sandringham residence, a notable estate on the Norfolk Coast, renowned for its outstanding natural beauty.

This visit is part of the Asantehene’s broader itinerary in the United Kingdom, which includes delivering a lecture at the British Museum. King Charles, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year and subsequently underwent surgery, welcomed the Asantehene warmly. Photos shared by the Royal Family on Facebook captured the two monarchs exchanging handshakes and smiles.

“The King welcomes The Asantehene – Ruler of the Kingdom of Ashanti in Ghana – to Sandringham House. His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is currently in the UK as part of his Silver Jubilee celebrations,” read the caption accompanying the photos.

During his working visit to the UK, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has engaged in discussions with the Victoria and Albert Museum and delivered a lecture at the British Museum, where he also celebrated the Awukudae festival. His Majesty departed Ghana on Saturday, July 13, 2024, marking the beginning of a significant visit that underscores the enduring ties between the Asante Kingdom and the United Kingdom.

The Asantehene is also set to host the sixth Akwasidae Festival of the year in London on August 4, 2024, as part of his 25th Anniversary on the Golden Stool.
