In a significant gesture of appreciation and acknowledgment, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his unwavering support throughout his eight-year tenure as President of Ghana. The President’s address at the Manhyia Palace underscored the pivotal role the Asantehene has played in the administration’s successes and its overarching governance.

The occasion, held on July 9, 2024, marked a poignant moment as President Akufo-Addo introduced the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate and running mate to the revered monarch. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh were formally presented to the Asantehene, symbolizing a continuation of the party’s legacy and leadership.

Addressing the Asantehene and the assembled dignitaries, President Akufo-Addo articulated his profound gratitude to the King, describing him as a “pillar of support” who has been instrumental in the administration’s endeavors and achievements. The President’s words were filled with reverence and appreciation, highlighting the deep bond and mutual respect between the presidency and the Asantehene’s throne.

“Your Majesty, your immense support has been a cornerstone of my presidency. Your wise counsel and unwavering backing have significantly contributed to the progress we have made as a nation. It is with a heart full of gratitude that I stand before you today to say thank you,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.

Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo made a heartfelt plea to the Asantehene, requesting that the same support and guidance be extended to the NPP’s new leadership. He urged the King to bestow his blessings and support upon Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Prempeh as they prepare to steer the party and, potentially, the nation.

“I humbly ask that you extend the same benevolence and support to our incoming leaders, Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Prempeh. Their success will be a continuation of the good work we have collectively accomplished, and I have every confidence in their ability to lead with distinction,” the President added.

In his closing remarks, President Akufo-Addo assured the Asantehene of his intention to pay a special visit to personally express his gratitude once more before his departure from office. This promise reflects the depth of his appreciation and the importance of the Asantehene’s support in the context of his presidential journey.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has long been recognized as a significant figure in Ghanaian politics, offering sage advice and unwavering support to leaders across the political spectrum. His influence and endorsement are seen as pivotal in the political landscape of the nation.

The event at Manhyia Palace was attended by key members of the NPP, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries, marking a significant moment in the political calendar as the nation prepares for the upcoming elections.
