Wontumi, Napo Bury Their Differences As They Aim To Break The 8

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken significant steps to resolve a long-standing feud between Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, and Energy Minister Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO). The discord between the two high-profile members has been a widely known issue within the party, reportedly exacerbated by disagreements during the Regional NPP Executive Elections.

The tensions peaked earlier this year during the vetting of Parliamentary Candidates, which resulted in heated exchanges and the invoking of curses at a meeting in Manhyia. Chairman Wontumi had previously taken a firm stance against NAPO becoming the running mate to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vowing to oppose it vehemently.

However, according to sources, efforts to bridge the divide have been initiated amid speculations that Dr. Bawumia and NAPO may be partnering for the 2024 elections. To ensure unity within the party, a meeting was reportedly convened by the NPP flagbearer, where both Chairman Wontumi and NAPO agreed to reconcile their differences and work together.

This reconciliation is seen as crucial for the NPP, especially in the Ashanti Region, which is a stronghold for the party. A source close to the discussions indicated that Chairman Wontumi will play a significant role in NAPO’s campaign, demonstrating that past conflicts have been resolved.

This development marks a positive step towards unity within the NPP as it gears up for the upcoming elections, aiming to present a united front and strengthen its position in its key regions.
