The New Patriotic Party (NPP) remains untroubled by recent pre-election polls that position the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Dramani Mahama, ahead of the NPP’s candidate, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. This assurance comes from Sammy Awuku, Director of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and campaign director for Dr. Bawumia during the NPP flagbearership primaries.
In a recent interview on Asempa FM’s “Ekosii Sen” program, Mr. Awuku emphasized that the NPP is not approaching the 2024 elections with the mindset of an incumbent party. Instead, they are adopting the stance of underdogs, aiming to secure a victory that will surprise the NDC. He asserted that the NPP has no plans to manipulate the election process but will employ a strategy that will ensure a decisive and unexpected win.
“We are not worried about the polls showing Mahama ahead,” Mr. Awuku stated. “We will not run this campaign as incumbents but as underdogs, and we will win in a manner that the NDC will never understand.”
He highlighted the importance of Vice President Bawumia’s house-to-house campaign, describing it as a critical component of the NPP’s superior strategy to engage directly with voters. According to Mr. Awuku, this grassroots approach will be instrumental in demonstrating the NPP’s commitment and connecting with the electorate on a personal level.
Acknowledging the current challenges faced by the NPP government, Mr. Awuku expressed confidence in the party’s ability to present itself as a better alternative to the NDC. He assured that the NPP’s strategic planning and direct voter engagement will be key to overcoming the opposition’s lead in pre-election surveys.
“The NPP is ready to address the challenges head-on and prove to Ghanaians that we are the better choice,” Mr. Awuku concluded.
