A recent release of the outcome of the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) by the National Teaching Council (NTC) has shed light on the abysmal performance of some over 9,000 out of 20,181 candidates who participated in the assessment.

The statistics disclosed a pass rate of 52.6%, with 10,625 teachers successfully meeting the required standards for licensure. However, a significant 47.4% of candidates, totaling 9,556 teachers, fell short of the necessary benchmarks.

A closer examination of the results showed that 4.4% of candidates, comprising 892 individuals, failed to secure a pass in any of the subjects tested. On a more positive note, 13.1% of the candidates managed to succeed in one subject, while 29.8% passed in two subjects.

The National Teaching Council (NTC) is poised to unveil the results of the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 2&3 on Thursday, December 21, 2023. As educators and stakeholders await these results, the figures released so far underscore the diverse outcomes of the examination, prompting reflections on the standards and preparedness of teaching professionals in the country.

This revelation calls for a comprehensive analysis of the factors influencing the performance of aspiring teachers and raises questions about the efficacy of the education system in adequately preparing candidates for the challenges of the teaching profession.

As the education community awaits the forthcoming release, discussions around strategies for improving these outcomes are likely to take center stage in the coming days.
