Mysterious Komfo Anokye Cola Tree At Feyiase Growing Again One Month After Being Cut Down By Unknown Individual

The stump of the historic Okomfo Anokye Cola Tree at Feyiase in the Ashanti Region has begun sprouting new growth just one month after the tree was felled under mysterious circumstances. Okyeame Frimpong, a linguist at the Feyiase traditional council, revealed this development in an exclusive interview with JoyNews.

The site, now cordoned off to prevent public access, has become the center of attention as the community grapples with the consequences of the felling of the sacred tree. Okyeame Frimpong stated that purification rites are currently underway, describing the incident as “doom and unfortunate” according to the traditional authority.

A team of researchers from the Crops Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research have visited the site to study the felled tree, aiming to understand the circumstances surrounding the sprouting of new growth from the remaining stump.

The Okomfo Anokye Cola Tree, standing as a symbol of historical significance to the Asante Kingdom, had served medicinal purposes for the residents living close to the sacred tree. Known as the Okomfo Anokye Bese, the tree was believed to have been planted 300 years ago and grown from the saliva of the revered chief priest, Okomfo Anokye, as he chewed cola nuts while traveling through the community.

The sacred tree was revered for its magical powers, believed to cure barrenness and heal various ailments and spiritual curses. Its sudden felling on November 7 shocked the community, prompting an investigation into the incident.

Solomon Amponsah, the man suspected of felling the tree, had spent close to a month in custody before meeting bail conditions. Granted GHS20,000 bail with one surety in November by the Atasemanso Circuit Court, he faced revised charges of illicit felling of the tree during his court appearance on December 6.

While Solomon Amponsah pleaded not guilty to the new charge, the case, presided over by Judge Gloria Mensah, was adjourned to December 28, 2023. The prosecution was ordered to file disclosure and relevant documents pertaining to the trial.

As the Feyiase community grapples with the aftermath of this mysterious incident, the unexpected sprouting of new growth from the historic tree stump adds another layer to the unfolding narrative, prompting both scientific investigation and spiritual reflection within the community.
