NPP Calls For Non-Partisan Support As They Donate GHS 200,000 Towards Otumfuo’s Heal KATH Campaign

In a bid to address the pressing infrastructure deficiencies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justine Kodua Frimpong, has called on Ghanaians to set aside political affiliations and unite in support of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s fundraising initiative for the hospital’s renovation.

KATH, a tertiary hospital catering to over ten regions in Ghana, is currently grappling with a deteriorating state, impacting the quality of healthcare delivery. Essential medical equipment is reported to be out of order, further exacerbating the challenges faced by both healthcare providers and patients.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asante monarch, initiated a campaign to raise GH¢10 million to address the critical infrastructure needs of the hospital. The fundraising drive has gained momentum, drawing attention from various quarters, including political parties.

Following the New Patriotic Party’s donation of GH¢200,000 to the initiative, Mr. Justine Kodua Frimpong stressed the importance of collective efforts that transcend political boundaries. He urged Ghanaians to unite in supporting the cause, emphasizing that the state of health care should be a matter of national concern irrespective of political differences.

“At this point, we don’t need to be partisan because health does not matter whether you are NDC or NPP, and so we are calling on our brothers from the NDC and the other parties to support the project,” Mr. Kodua remarked.

The Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the hospital’s challenges. He specifically highlighted the shortage of equipment crucial for managing critical conditions, such as machines for dialysis sessions.

As the fundraising initiative gains momentum, stakeholders, including corporate bodies, are being urged to contribute towards securing the necessary funds for KATH’s renovation. The collective effort is seen as a crucial step in ensuring the hospital can continue to provide essential healthcare services to the diverse regions it serves.
