The opposition NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Effutu Constituency, James Kofi Annan, has been arrested, and is before the District Magistrate Court, Winneba for talking back to the Chairman of the voter challenge committee.
Details are that while the complainant was chairing the meeting, Mr Annan walked into the meeting and asked why the meeting was ongoing without the NDC representative. The chairman asked that his grievances be channeled to him since he was the chairman. But Mr Annan retorted that “you are the chairman of the committee and so what? You are the reason why we are not enjoying peace in Winneba”
For saying the above words to the chairman, Mr James Kofi Annan has been accused of using abusive words that can provoke the breach of peace or whereby a breach of the peace is likely to be occasioned and subsequently arrested and put before court.
Many on social media, upon seeing the court documents, have wondered how Mr Annan’s pronouncements could lead to his arrest and prosecution.
