Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford and the former World Bank Africa staff Dr. Solomon Owusu has exposed Ken Ofori-Atta for failing to account for over GH¢10 billion tax revenue from mining.
In his post stated that, the Finance Minister Ken ofori-Atta has never disclosed the over Gh¢10.4 billion tax revenues paid by the mining companies in Ghana in any of his budgets from 2017 to 2020.
”AngloGold Ashanti has paid US$ 116 million, approximately Gh¢755 million tax revenue to the government for the 2021 financial year.
So far, Goldfields and AngloGold alone have paid a total of US$ 436 million, approximately Gh¢2.84 billion tax revenue to the government for the 2021 financial year.
Ten (10) other companies are yet to pay and disclose their tax revenues for 2021 to the government. We are monitoring closely.
Surprisingly, my research shows that the Finance Minister has never disclosed the over Gh¢10.4 billion tax revenues paid by the mining companies in Ghana in any of his budgets from 2017 to 2020 ??
Meanwhile, Oil / Petroleum revenues have been disclosed with details of their expenditures every year. All Ghanaians should ask the whereabouts of the tax revenues from mining,” he added.
