A team from the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) led by its Executive Director, (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah have paid a courtesy call on the National Lottery Authority, to familiarise themselves with the authority’s operations.
Addressing the Director-General of the NLA, Mr. Sammi Awuku and some key staff, the Executive Director of EOCO, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah stated that it is the responsibility of the EOCO to ensure that, the finances of all public institutions are in safe hands and in accordance to the Financial management regulations, hence a need for the Economic and Organised Crime Office to embark on this courtesy call to the NLA and to ensure that monies meant for the government through the consolidated funds are not tampered with.
According to Maame Tiwaah, prosecuting persons who misappropriate or misapply public funds always cost government a huge amount of money, hence EOCO is adopting an alternative channel of sensitizing public workers on how to abide by the financial management regulations and prevent being prosecuted.
Mr. Sammi Awuku, on his part, lamented the way and manner in which some unscrupulous persons use images of staff of the NLA to perpetuate fraud against unsuspecting persons.
He further explained that the NLA has arrested some ten(10) lotto fraudsters and continues to be on high alert.
The Director-General made a passionate appeal to the EOCO boss, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah to assist the Lottery Authority deal with this illegality with some urgency, to save the Authority and the nation millions of cedis.
He also assured that the NLA shall continue to collaborate with the EOCO, police, and other relevant security agencies to arrest lotto fraudsters across the country.
