The Electoral Commission in a press statement has urged the public to disregard photos depicting large crowds at some registration centers amidst the new voters’ register compilation.
According to the EC, the said photo does not show the usual registration center set up that characterizes all EC’s Registration Centers, noting that it just shows a large crowd gathered together in an area.
The originator of the photo, according to the EC, did not state the registration center where the photograph was taken and called on the public to disregard it as it is not in anyway an EC registration center.
All in all reports reaching the Commission depict a positive turnout at all the Registration Centres. The Commission is aware that some Centers recorded high numbers leading to some overcrowding. We are taking steps to work with the Security Agencies to address possible overcrowding at our Registration Centers,” the statement read.
Speaking on a viral audio that suggested guarantors would be disenfranchised, the EC stated that it is not true. The system will only pick up for prosecution persons who guarantee for more than ten (10) people.
“We call on the general public to be circumspect and disregard false information which is not rooted in our Laws and C.I. ‘s,” the EC warned.
