Ghana’s Apex Court has directed government to purchase some properties belonging to businessman Alfred Woyome to offset the ¢51.2million debt the businessman owes the state.
This comes after Deputy Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame filed an application to the Supreme Court to allow the state to take ownership after failure by an auctioneer to sell them.
However a five-member jury presided over by Chief Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah on Wednesday, June 24, 2020, stated that the application by the AG’s office is not allowed by the rules of court and directed that the state bought the properties to service Mr. Woyome’s debt.
