As part of measures by the Electoral Commission to ensure effective and free and fair election, the EC has decided to present a new constitutional Instrument before parliament somewhere next week to amend the already existing CI 94.
This was made known yesterday by Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. This is to allow eligible voters even after participating in the upcoming voters’ registration exercise to still be able to transfer their vote to any polling station for voting.
The exiting CI only allows the transfer of votes 12 months ahead of elections and so it was imperative for the amendment and also because the existing CI only permits the transfer of votes 12 months ahead of the elections.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu announced this while addressing the media on Thursday.
The MP drew to the attention that, the amended CI will allow students over 18 years but still in school to be able to transfer their votes after completion or and during holidays. He said it was necessary the EC sped up with the presentation to be passed before parliaments adjourns sitting.
