Deputy Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum has interrogated why people must give their vote to John Mahama just for him to come and maintain the nursing, teacher taineee allowance the NPP has already done.
Speaking to Kwabena Prah on Accra FM’s Ghana Yensom on Tuesday June 9, the minister said there is no need to give Mr Mahama the chance to come do what has already been done.
“You said you’ll maintain the nursing, teacher trainee allowance which you abolished under your era and has been restored under Akuffo Addo.
Why will Ghanaians vote for you to come and do what another government is already doing,” he quizzed.
Mr Mahama in a digital interaction session revealed plans to maintain the nursing, teacher trainee allowance and eventually move it to the Students Loan Trust Fund when voted into power.
“Instead of giving it to you as a lump sum, we will give it to you at regular intervals so that you continue to use it for the things you use it for. So, once we have done it and it’s attractive and it’s good enough for you, then we will now do the migration onto the student loan scheme. So for now, if I become the President on January 7, 2021, we will maintain the status quo. It means that, we will continue to pay the allowances and when we have improved and made it attractive for all students to go for it, then we will now do the migration onto the student loan scheme. So that’s my position on it as of now,” the former president said.
