9 State-Of-The-Art TVET Centres To Be Completed In 2 years- Deputy Education Minister Assures

The Deputy Education Minister in charge of Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres, Honourable Gifty Twum Ampofo, has noted that funds have been made available for the construction of the TVET Centre of Excellence at Abrankese in the Bosomtwe district of the Ashanti region, and eight others under phase one of the 32 state of the art TVET centres to be constructed in each of the sixteen regions. 

In explaining more on Movement In The Morning Political Show on Tuesday June 7, 2022, the Deputy Minister said, “the phase one of the project is expected to be completed and commissioned in 2 years, and there’s going to be nothing like abandoning projects, as majority of the funds have been made available to the Bank of Ghana for the construction”.  

She noted that this move by the government is to consolidate the gains made in enhancing quality, expand access and increase funding for TVET in Ghana; adding that it is in line with the government’s quest to make TVET education the toast of the youth. 

“The centre of excellence is a one stop shop which will comprise modern training infrastructure, laboratories and workshops with all the needed and necessary tools, hostels , canteen among others. If you are a university graduate and will still want to venture into TVET although that wasn’t what you studied in school, the opportunity has been presented. Today in the world of work,  skills matter the most,” she said. 

She added, “Government is constructing two state of the art TVET centres in each of the sixteen regions.This is to make TVET education intriguing for every Ghanaian and enhance the teaching skills of TVET teachers”. 

She disclosed that the other eight projects under phase one will be constructed in Akyem Awisa in the Eastern region, Salaga in the Savannah region, Oti region, Bamboi, Ahafo and Western North. 

The Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia was accompanied by the Education Minister, Dr, Yaw Adu Twum and other government officials for the commemorative sod cutting event for the  TVET Centre of Excellence and 8 others at Abrankese in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti region.
