Alhaji Ayaana, a 65-year-old businessman and philanthropist, has been honored with a brand-new Renault car and an undisclosed cash gift after completing an extraordinary 250-kilometer trek from Kumasi to Accra. The journey, undertaken to witness the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025, captured the admiration of many across Ghana.
The car was presented by popular broadcaster and showbiz personality Kofi Okyere Darko, widely known as KOD. In a video shared online, Alhaji Ayaana is seen accepting the car keys before stepping into the vehicle for a test drive.
The gesture has garnered mixed reactions from the public. Many praised the move as a fitting recognition of Alhaji Ayaana’s dedication and symbolic act. Others, however, questioned the necessity of such a significant reward for what some considered a personal endeavor.
This is not the first time Alhaji Ayaana has undertaken symbolic journeys to mark significant national milestones. In 1997, he walked to honor the second-term inauguration of former President Jerry John Rawlings. Two years later, in 1999, he organized a 16-kilometer peace and health walk in Tamale to promote unity and well-being.
Speaking to local media, Alhaji Ayaana expressed gratitude for the recognition, noting that his efforts have always been driven by a desire to inspire patriotism and unity. “My journeys are about honoring our leaders and bringing people together. This gift is unexpected, but I am deeply humbled,” he said.
KOD, who facilitated the presentation, lauded Alhaji Ayaana’s commitment to national unity and underscored the importance of celebrating individuals who inspire others through acts of dedication.
The symbolic trek and its recognition have sparked conversations on social media, with many commending the act of honoring individuals who contribute to national pride and unity. Others, however, have raised questions about the broader implications of such rewards.
