You Have Guns, Yet They Are Facing You With Their Bare Hands – A-Plus Reacts To Police Clash With Youth
Musician and political activist, Kwame Asare Obeng has reacted to a video circulating on social media which shows an angry youth clashing with armed police personnel who are said to have been sent to ensure a demolition exercise with a court order.
In a post on Facebook, A-Plus wrote,
Before I say anything, I’ll like to state clearly that, I am against any form of attack on Ghana Police Service. Not all of them are corrupt. Many of them are highly educated professionals who are passionate about their job and are doing a lot for this country.
Now that I’ve made that clear, let me also state clearly that many people have lost trust in the police service just as “Black Lives Matter” has lost trust in the US police. People don’t trust you especially when it comes to land issues. The youth are also tired of police stopping them and asking them to turn on their computers, ask them to enter their pin for them to browse through their devices. That is very bad, it is against the law and you know it. Some of you sell justice to the highest bidder and you know it!!!
You are the reason why some military men were deployed to a village near Kasoa where they were brutalized. The owners of the land are fed up with your corruption so they decided to use the military. That is the facts!! Some of you like bribe too much. You have caused so many chieftaincy and family disputes with your bribe-taking in dealing with land issues. The few bad nuts who are destroying the hard-earned reputation of many good officers must be removed to restore the service to its glory. Gone are the days when police was for desperate people trying to make ends meet like Dr Nyankson.
This action by the youth is very bad but I blame the police. You have guns yet they are facing you with their bare hands. That is how low the image of the service is. They don’t fear or respect you because some of you like bribe too much!!!! If you don’t respect yourselves who will respect you?

Audio: Osei Kyei Is The Majority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu Is The Minority; Stop Confusing The Public – Speaker Warns MPs
The Speaker of Parliament Alban S.K. Bagbin has urged Members of the Eighth Parliament to desist from confusing the public over the leadership of the two groups in the house.
Speaking in Parliament today, Right Honourable Bagbin stated that Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu was the Majority Leader and Haruna Iddrisu was the Minority Leader.
He said: “…The Standing Orders further provide that the Majority Group will be lead by a leader and that leader is referred to as Majority Leader and Order 160 and Order 168 demands that the Business Committee and the House Committee be chaired by the Majority Leader, that is the standing orders we have now and I am guided by that, I am bounded by it…
“So please, don’t keep confusing the public. So the Honourable Osei-Kyei-Mensah Bonsu is the Majority Leader, the Honourable Haruna Iddrisu is the Minority Leader”.
The Speaker’s latest declaration on the composition of the House comes a week after he declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in Parliament together with the independent Member of Parliament for Fomena, Andrew Asiamah Amoako constitute the Majority Group in Parliament.
That declaration followed an official letter from Mr Asiamah Amoako to the Speaker in which he stated that he will do business with the NPP caucus in Parliament led by Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Exactly 55 years ago on January 22, 1996, Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah inaugurated the Akosombo Dam across the Volta River.
The Akosombo dam created a hydroelectric power plant, which fuelled an aluminium smelter and provided electricity to urban centers and adjacent countries like Togo and Benin.
However, the main purpose of the dam was to provide electricity solely for the aluminium industry. It is known to be “the largest single investment in the economic development plans of Ghana”
