Why Is Kumawood Still In Coma If ‘Dumsor’ Caused Its Collapse – Michael Afrane Asks

Kumawood actor and politician Michael Afrane is baffled by people who assert that the demise of Kumawood was caused by an unstable energy supply, or “Dumsor,” as it is known locally.

He said the collapse of the sector was attributed to the renovation of the Kejetia Market and Dumsor that occurred during the previous John Dramani Mahama administration.

Yet, Mr. Michael Afrane notes that power has been stabilized since 2017 and that the ultra-modern Kejetia market has been completely rebuilt, but that is not enough to revive Kumawood. He wonders what the real issue was.

If Dumsor and the reconstruction of Kejetia market were to blame for the demise of the Kumawood film industry, the sector would have recovered following the installation of electricity and the Kejetia market’s construction, he noted.

The John Dramani Mahama administration was accused of failing to address and resolve the major issues that were bringing the industry to its knees because of politics.

“Actors who ran against former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC have regretted,” Michael Afrane continued, “because Nana Addo has let them down with poor economic management.”

After making several pledges, “I can openly claim President Akufo- Addo’s government has failed to promote the movie business, forcing certain stars to campaign against former President John Dramani Mahama.”
