‘When You’re In The Spotlight You Must Act Responsibly’ – Judge Tells Medikal

The Accra Circuit Court 4 presided by Emmanuel Essandoh has advised rapper, Samuel Adu-Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, to live a responsible lifestyle.

The judge who had convicted the musician of unlawful display of arms and ammunition in a public place told him to be cautious of his spotlight and strive to always be on the right path.

“When you are in the spotlight, you must act responsibly. But, whatever you do, first ask yourself whether you are on the right path”, the judge admonished.

Medikal was on Monday sentenced to a fine of ₵3,600.00, failing which payment he will serve a nine-month prison term.

The Court also ordered the release of the 9mm pistol he brandished to him.

This was after the rapper pled guilty to the charge of unlawful public display of arms.

The Police arrested the ‘La Hustle’ hitmaker for brandishing a gun in a video posted on social media in September, 2021.

He was later charged for unlawful display of arms and ammunition.

Medikal had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge when he made his first appearance in court, but the Court refused him bail.

The ‘Omo Ada’ rapper was remanded into police custody for five days. However, when he reappeared before the Court on October 26, the adjudicator granted him a ¢100,000 bail.

The case was then adjourned to January 25, 2022.

On his appearance in court after that, the Defense Counsel for Medikal prayed the Circuit Court to release the Musician’s Ruger 9mm pistol confiscated by the Police after it was displayed on social media.

But appearing before Court on Monday, February 21, the accused changed his plea to guilty.

According to reports, the prosecution had attempted to oppose Medikal’s guilty plea explaining to the Court that they did not know the rapper would change his not guilty plea.

However, the judge who opposed the Police’s stance noted that the prosecution did not need to be informed.

A visibly remorseful Medikal told the Court he regretted the incident; “I am deeply sorry, and I regret the action. However, I am not a harmful person. My job is to entertain…”

The judge subsequently told Medikal to “go in peace.”

He further added, “…and ayekoo [Congratulations] to your daughter.”
