Video: Ken Agyapong And His Lawyer Jubilate After Successfully Pleading With Supreme Court To Remove Judge Hearing His Contempt Case?

Published

on

In a viral video currently circulating online, controversial MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and his lawyer, Afenyo Markin can be seen dancing to traditional music, as they apparently celebrate their victory at the Supreme Court today.

The Supreme Court removed a High Court Judge, Justice Amos Wuntah Wuni from presiding over a contempt case brought against the Assin Central MP.

The Court, in a judgement delivered on Wednesday by a 5-member panel, presided by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie ordered the registrar to assign a new judge to preside over the case.

Lawyers for the embattled Assin Central MP argued that the judge, Amos Wuntah Wuni, had demonstrated hostility towards their client. He specifically referred to the judge’s comment in court that ‘if you touch a live wire it will electrocute you.’

The maverick lawmaker was summoned before the court after comments he made on his privately owned Net2 TV Station were deemed to have impugned the reputation of the Court.

However, it appears the lawmaker, who was said to have suffered post-COVID complications has finally regained his full fitness as he is seen in a viral video dancing in jubilant mood with his lawyer and friend.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed that the country’s debt under President Akufo-Addo is unprecedented.

Speaking at a press conference, the Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi noted that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) under Akufo-Addo has incurred an additional GH¢38 billion debts in almost four years.

“In fact, per our current total public debt of GH¢258.8 billion, that is as at June 2020, every Ghanaian in Ghana today is indebted to the tune of about GHS10,000,” Sammy Gyamfi stated.

“Our current debt position is worse than where we were when we joined the HIPC [Highly Indebted Poor Country] debt relief programme in the year 2001, at which time our debt-to-GDP ratio stood at 61%,” he noted.

NDC Aspiring PC Defects To NPP

An aspiring National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa, Eric Kwesi Taylor, has defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr Taylor says his decision is borne of his admiration for the NPP manifesto and the admirable campaign message delivered by his NPP counterpart.

The message which has won Mr Taylor over to the NPP was one delivered at a public meeting at Cocoase on 25th October 2020 by Adjei Domson, the NPP PC.

“As a citizen of Breman Asikuma, I felt that the message would go a long way to better the living standard of the community of which I belong.

“I also want to mention the calm attitude of the leadership of the NPP in the constituency as against the insulting and the engagement of thugs against me.

“In order to protect my life and that of my family, I have taken this bold decision to join this peaceful party (NPP),” Mr Taylor stated in a letter addressed to the NPP Constituency Chairman.

Minister for Finance, Hon Ken Ofori-Atta has rubbishes claims by the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama for saying Ghana has return back to HIPIC.

According to the Finance Minister, President Akuffo-Addo took Ghana out of the IMF programme and there’s no turning back to HIPC for it is behind us. He added that, economic mismanagement is behind us and assured Ghanaians that the economy is stronger.

He lashed the NDC by saying; “those who mismanaged the economy for us to come and fix it are the ones wishing Ghana ill”.

“President Akufo-Addo government took Ghana out of the IMF programme in record time. Ironically, those who mismanaged the economy for us to come and fix it are the ones wishing Ghana ill. My message to them is, there is no turning back, HIPC is behind us, economic mismanagement is behind us, the economy stronger today that it was four years ago and will continue to grow stronger and stronger with four more years to do more for the people of Ghana with God’s help,” he said.
