The 7-member Supreme Court panel hearing the 2020 election petition between John Mahama, Electoral Commission and President Akufo-Addo have cited former deputy attorney general Dominic Ayine for contempt.

Mr Ayine was cited for contempt based on comments he made outside court which were deemed to be scandalous.

Having officially written an official letter of apology to the Court, Mr Ayine admitted his wrongdoing before the court and pleaded for clemency.

The Court, acknowledging the reputation of Mr Ayine and his service to the Country and the legal profession in particular, decided not to pursue the charge against him.

The Chief Justice, however, cautioned him to use the same medium to retract and apologize to the Court before Thursday in order for the contempt charge against him to be withdrawn.
