The Speaker of Parliament has conditionally approved a request for two Members of Parliament—Mustapha Yussif (Yagaba Kubori) and Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus (Gomoa Central)—to attend an official meeting with security officials.
In a directive issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, acting on behalf of the Speaker, the House emphasized the need to adhere to Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution, which protect MPs from arbitrary arrest or detention while ensuring parliamentary privileges are respected.
The decision also considered existing protocols between Parliament and security agencies, as well as the public interest in the matter.
Conditions for the Meeting
- The MPs are to present themselves at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room (Office of the Speaker) on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 am.
- They must be accompanied by their legal representatives to safeguard their rights during the proceedings.
- Security officials have been instructed to liaise with Parliament’s Legal Services Office upon arrival to ensure due process is followed.
While the specific reasons for the meeting remain undisclosed, this move underscores Parliament’s commitment to balancing legal accountability with the protection of MPs’ constitutional privileges.
The development signals a cautious approach by the legislature in handling interactions between lawmakers and security agencies, ensuring transparency and due process while maintaining public trust.
