Host of Newsfile on JoyNews, Samson Lardi Anyenini has explained that dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale and his boys who were arrested yesterday could face up to five years imprisonment, should the Judge decide to hand out a custodial sentence.

Shatta Wale’s boys had spread misleading information on 18th October 2021 that the musician had been ambushed and shot by some unknown assailants around East Legon.

The boys further claimed that the dancehall artiste was admitted at an emergency ward in an unnamed hospital.

This led to widespread fear and panic, prompting investigations by the Ghana Police.

Preliminary investigations by the Police revealed that the whole issue was a calculated publicity stunt, leading to the Police issuing a search notice for Shatta Wale.

The musician consequently surrendered himself to the Police at around 8:59pm on Tuesday evening.

In a Facebook post, however, Lawyer Samson Anyenini has cautioned the Ghanaian public against spreading false information.

He wrote, “Pray – Meantime, stop circulating false or misleading information because by section 76 of the electronic coms law, you face a fine of up to GHC 36,000 or up to five years in jail for such act.

By section 208 of our criminal code, you also face up to three years in jail if you don’t verify and spread a false statement, rumour or report that can cause fear and panic“.
