Second-Year SHS, JHS Students To Resume October 5

Published

on

Second-year Junior High School and Senior High School students will be returning to school on October 5, 2020.

This follows relevant consultations by the Ghana Education Service, according to President Akufo-Addo.

“With Junior High Schools operating with class sizes of thirty (30), and Senior High Schools with class sizes of twenty-five (25), SHS 2 and JHS 2 students will be in school for ten (10) weeks to study, and write their end of term examinations,” the President said in an address to the nation on Sunday evening.

Prior to reopening, all schools will be fumigated and disinfected.

All JHS two and SHS two students will be given reusable face masks like was done for the final year JHS and SHS students who reported to school earlier in the year.

JHS two students will also be given one hot meal a day.

“SHS 2 students in boarding houses are to return to their various dormitories on 5th October, whilst day students, respecting fully the COVID-19 protocols, will commute from home to their respective schools on the same date. Prior to reopening, all Junior and Senior High Schools will be fumigated and disinfected. Just as was done in the case of final year university, JHS and SHS students, all JHS 2 and SHS 2 students, as well as all teaching and non-teaching staff, will be given reusable face masks. Each school will be provided with Veronica Buckets, gallons of liquid soap, rolls of tissue paper, thermometer guns, and 200 milli-litre containers of sanitizers. JHS 2 students will be given one hot meal a day,” President Akufo-Addo added.

Show Us Your Records Not Promises – Nana Akomea Jabs Mahama

Published

on

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the December 2020 polls is about the performance of the two leading candidates and not their manifestos.

The NPP made this known at a press conference organised today, Monday, September 21, 2020.

According to Nana Akomea, a former communications director of the party who addressed a press conference on Monday, manifestos will count for nothing there is not credibility and integrity backing them.

The Chief Executive Officer of the State Transport Corporation urged Ghanaians not to take promises made by John Mahama seriously.

“John Mahama in 2016 said Ghanaians should be careful with promises made by people when they are out of government because they don’t know the reality. So today he is out of government and he is making promises. Do we take him seriously? He himself has instructed us (Ghanaians) not to take such people seriously because they don’t know the reality. What do we do? The track record is what we must look at, not your words.”

“So that is the choice that is before the people of Ghana because as for putting words in manifestos, every politician can do that but when you have somebody putting words in a manifesto but that has had a chance to be in government, then you have to measure the performance in government and not words in the manifesto,” Nana Akomea said.

Why Only 8 Days? – NDC Questions Duration Of EC Voter Exhibition

Published

on

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has slammed the Electoral Commission (EC) over what its describes as short duration for the exhibition of the new voters’ register.

According to the party’s Director of Elections, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, duration is woefully inadequate for such an important exercise which forms part of preparation for this year’s elections.

“The exhibition of the voters register is a critical aspect of our electoral process. It is through the exhibition exercise that citizens who register get the opportunity to confirm that their names and other details are duly captured on the voters roll such that they will not be disenfranchised on voting days.

“In view of the importance of the exercise, the exhibition duration in that past being between 11 to 21 days.

“In 2012 the exhibition was eleven days. Even in 2016 where only a limited registration exercise was conducted in preparation for that election the duration for the exhibition exercise was 21 good days.

“Unfortunately, with the 2020 registration exercise that was characterized by various anomalies, violence and chaos and also involving close to 17 million prospective voters the EC rather strangely announced an 8-day exhibition exercise.”

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah spoke at press conference in Accra on Monday, September 21.
