A mobile money agent, Tobert Frimpong, has been shot dead at Juabuso Nkwanta of Juaboso district of Western North Region.

The agent was allegedly shot on Sunday, November 14, 2021, by a suspected and wanted criminal.

His father, Mr. Joseph Kobina, speaking on the incident said a young man came to their residence and asked if that was where the agent resides.

The father said he answered in the affirmative but asked the young man what he wanted, and in his response said he wanted to withdraw money.

The father, who was not satisfied with his answer questioned why he left several agents and came to their house to withdraw money from his son.

The young man he said left without saying anything.

But after some few hours, he heard gunshots thinking it was firecrackers, but the shots were fired again and as curious as he was, he decided to go and see where the shots came from.

His wife reportedly told him not to go, but he left the house to the scene and on the way going, he heard someone say ‘if you don’t give us the bag, we will shoot you”.

The father added that upon reaching the scene, he saw the attacker snatching the bag from the vendor.

”I had no idea it was my son. I tried chasing the armed man, but he was firing shots to prevent people from chasing him. I then realized it was my son he had shot. We rushed him to the hospital, but he could not survive.”

His mother, who was devastated by the incident, said she had lost the breadwinner, of the family.

The woman who could not control herself said she intends to kill herself and join her son.

She has asked the Police to deal with the matter.

The Police have arrested a suspect in the matter and assisting them with their investigations.

Meanwhile, other mobile money vendors in the area have expressed fear following the incident.
