Renowned Ghanaian Broadcast Journalist, Bright Kamkam Boadu, has observed that one of the most difficult issues currently confronting Ghana is the implementation of laws.

His observation came in wake of challenges associated with rent payments which have often fomented discussions in the media without pertinent measures taken by the government to address same.

Alluding to the comment by the New Patriotic Party’s communications team member, Nana Akomea who in 2020 promised that the Akufo-Addo-led government will cover the rent allowance for the youth in the second term, Mr Kamkam quizzed, “when will the government implement the law that was promised to the working youth in Ghana when they came to power?”

The broadcast journalist claimed in an interview with Pure FM’s Morning Drive show that the government is aware that two years is the barest minimum that landlords will accept for a lease.

“What are they doing about this, and how are they assisting the youth in today’s Ghana,” he asked.

Mr Kamkam added that after one completes school, that person has to start life after getting a job, and that is when rent comes in.

“The problem Ghana has is that if a young person starts working today, they already have debt because their parents have taken loan for them to pay their rent, which they then have to pay back in instalments.”

“It is against the law to rent a house or apartment to someone who has paid more than a three-month advance even in Cote d’Ivoire. If they break the law, they will simply be put in jail in Cote d’Ivoire,” he added.

He continued by saying that Ghana should endeavour to enforce the law as some of her neighbouring nations have done.

Due to the economic difficulty, the country’s youth are facing a crisis and they are the same people being prepared to become leaders in the future, therefore the government should pay attention to their cries, he urged.
