The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia stormed the Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asantehene today clad in colorful Kente and Ahenema sandals to greet the King as Asanteman observes the Last Akwasidae of the year.

Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia seems to be living up to his pledge as an ‘adopted’ son of the Asantehene following a pledge he made when he went to thank the Asante Overlord after the burial of his mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia a few months ago.

Dr. Bawumia, who led a delegation to Manhyia to officially thank the Asantehene for his support during his mother’s funeral, pleaded with the King to adopt him as a son since he has lost both parents.

The Vice President, a native of Walewale in the North East, seems to be determined to live up to his pledge as he appears to be adapting quickly to the Akan culture.

The Akwasidae Festival is celebrated by the Ashanti people and chiefs in Ashanti,as well as the Ashanti diaspora. The festival is celebrated on a Sunday, once every six weeks.
