Our Integrity In Just Ended 2020 Wassce Intact — WAEC

The West African Examination Council Ghana (WAEC) says the integrity of the just-ended West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has not been compromised.

The 2020 WASSCE for the first batch of Free Senior High School (SHS) students was marred with a lot of controversies.

Invigilators were also reportedly manhandled by some students who allegedly engaged in exam malpractice.

The exam body has been accused of overlooking what appears to be general leakage of examination questions but at a media engagement in Accra on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, the Head of National Office at WAEC, Wendy Addy Lamptey, indicated that all alleged leaked papers seen on social media were not genuine.

Madam Addy Lamptey assured that quality assurance systems had been put in place to protect the integrity of the exam.

“As widely reported by the media, there was alleged widespread leakage of questions on most of the social networks and as is usually the case, WAEC was taken to the cleaners. The truth, however, is that, for each paper, there were several versions on social media but these questions were not genuine. The reactions of some students after the Integrated Science paper, for instance, lend credence to this fact. In all the Council’s interactions with the media, we have consistently cautioned candidates against the operations of these rogue websites.”

She added: “When the purported leaked question paper turned out to be fake, an incredulous story was immediately hatched. To wit, that a new set of questions were immediately printed for the test. Such claims can only be made by persons who don’t know about the time and logistics needed to compile, typeset, print, pack and distribute question papers to various depots nationwide. Sadly, apart from circulating fake questions on social media, some rogue websites and WhatsApp groups also claimed to be able to alter results for candidates.”

Why Only 8 Days? – NDC Questions Duration Of EC Voter Exhibition

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has slammed the Electoral Commission (EC) over what its describes as short duration for the exhibition of the new voters’ register.

According to the party’s Director of Elections, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, duration is woefully inadequate for such an important exercise which forms part of preparation for this year’s elections.

“The exhibition of the voters register is a critical aspect of our electoral process. It is through the exhibition exercise that citizens who register get the opportunity to confirm that their names and other details are duly captured on the voters roll such that they will not be disenfranchised on voting days.

“In view of the importance of the exercise, the exhibition duration in that past being between 11 to 21 days.

“In 2012 the exhibition was eleven days. Even in 2016 where only a limited registration exercise was conducted in preparation for that election the duration for the exhibition exercise was 21 good days.

“Unfortunately, with the 2020 registration exercise that was characterized by various anomalies, violence and chaos and also involving close to 17 million prospective voters the EC rather strangely announced an 8-day exhibition exercise.”

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah spoke at press conference in Accra on Monday, September 21.

“The Real Agyapa” – Social Media Remembers Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

Social media has been awash this day in celebratory mood as Ghana remembers its first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Dr. Nkrumah would have been 111 years old today if he was alive and the nation as part of keeping his long lasting legacy has set aside his birthday, 21st September every year as “Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day”.

And in keeping to this, most Ghanaians have gone down memory lane to celebrate the man some regard as the greatest African to ever live.

Former President and NDC flagbearer, John Mahama took to his Facebook page to salute the “an icon” like Osagyefo.

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Iain Walker also tweeted:

Award winning songwriter, Kofi Kinaata also joined the twitter bandwagon to celebrate the visionary Nkrumah.

Ace Satirist KSM posting on twitter tagged him, “The Main Man”.

See below how the rest of social media has been remembering Osagyefo:
