The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Prof. Ransford Gyampo, has assured that his recent appointment by the President will not prevent him from critiquing government policies when necessary.
Following his appointment, some have speculated that Prof. Gyampo, known for his outspoken nature, would soften his stance on government criticism, as observed during the previous Akufo-Addo administration. However, in an interview on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, February 2, 2025, he dispelled such notions, affirming that he will continue to hold government accountable.
“I cannot keep quiet; maybe that’s just how I was created. I am told I even talk in my sleep, so I can’t keep silent. If something is right, we will acknowledge it; if it is wrong, we will speak about it,” he stated.
Prof. Gyampo, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, emphasized that while he will engage with political actors and government officials to resolve issues of national concern, he will not hesitate to speak out publicly if necessary.
“If I have access to the President, my minister, and key decision-makers, the sensible approach is to bring issues to their attention directly and encourage them to address them. However, if those efforts prove futile, I will not remain silent,” he asserted.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to public discourse through platforms like KeyPoints, stating, “If it becomes necessary that I come out publicly, you will see me on KeyPoints. I have not abandoned it, and Ghanaians will hear from me.”
As he assumes leadership at the GSA, Prof. Gyampo’s remarks indicate his intent to balance his responsibilities while continuing to be a vocal advocate for transparency and accountability in governance.
