Massive Showdown Expected In Parliament Today As Majority Plots To Overturn Budget Rejection While Minority Vows To Stand Their Ground

Parliament is expected to be the theater of intense drama today as the majority caucus, reeling from last Friday’s unceremonious disgrace, seeks a massive comeback in the eyes of Ghanaians, the audience in this theater.

The majority caucus, led by their leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu seeks to overturn the verdict that rejected the 2022 budget presented by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

According to Mr. Kyei Mensah Bonsu, what happened on the floor of parliament last week is an affront to Parliamentary procedure and a slap in the face of the 1992 constitution since a quorum was not formed and hence the rejection of the budget cannot be valid.

His assertion is out-rightly rejected by the Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin who insists that a quorum was formed because one majority member was present when the vote was put before the house.

It is expected that the majority caucus will try every trick up their sleeve to ensure they overturn last Friday’s verdict and get their budget passed, though the minority caucus is also expected to stand their ground in an unwavering boot-for-boot affair.
