Manasseh Azure Names ‘Accomplices’ Of Kasoa Teenage Killers

Published

on

Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure has attributed the gruesome murder of a 10-year old boy in Kasoa by two teenage boys to the country’s refusal to question people’s source of wealth.

In a post on Facebook, Manasseh bemoaned how institutions and leaders stay mute when otherwise ordinary Ghanaians become rich overnight as one of the many reasons why everyone wants to get rich by any means necessary.

To him, people who worship wealthy persons without questioning the source of their wealth are accomplices in such gruesome murders.

See his full post below:

Accomplices of the Kasoa Teenage Murderers************************************************I’m yet to recover from the shocking television footage of the two Kasoa teenagers in the bucket of a police pickup vehicle and the bloody body of the 10-year old boy they killed for money rituals.

I turned away from the TV set immediately and my day, yesterday, was ruined. The action of these teenagers is shocking, but I’m not shocked that our country has got this far and can get worse. We worship money without questioning its source. If any idiot steals, cheats, or uses the foulest of means to make money, they sit in the media and public platforms to spew trash and we worship them.

Once you’re rich, you can circumvent all the laws of the land and go unpunished. In politics, you wield authority. In the church, you occupy the front pew and become an elder. In the media, you’re featured in personality profiles and you tell more lies about how you made it.

In today’s Ghana, the end justifies the means. If you question the means, you’re said to be jealous. Some people miss no opportunity to insult intellectuals because someone who’s not an intellectual makes money. “What have the professors and their big English to show all these years? Without education so so and so has made money and is impacting society. That’s what is important,” they would say.

I’m not saying people don’t make genuine money here. Some do. You see their business and you see their organic growth and impact. You can trace their sources of wealth, which match their cash flows. If the owners of Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft and others are among the world’s richest, you can trace their products and services to every part of the globe. If someone builds an investment like Accra Mall or the A&C Mall and he or she is rich, you can point to some solid investment they have made and are harvesting returns.

So I have nothing wrong with people who make money. My issue is how we have elevated wealth above every other human consideration and worship people whose wealth is tainted with fraud or blood. We have hardened criminals parading as businessmen, and they spend their entire lives telling cock and bull stories about how they made their money. Those who question them are said to be PhD (pull him down) holders. We present them as role models and encourage everyone to be like them. The youth (and even children) are observing keenly, and some are taking notes. So we shouldn’t be surprised that teenagers are killing for money rituals.

There are more killers like the Kasoa teenagers. Those who use our money to award fraudulent contracts and people die because there are no beds in the hospital have killed and continue to kill for money. (President John Mahama was right when equated corruption to mass murder.) The Kasoa teenagers have wasted a precious life. Many more lives are wasted daily in different sectors of our nation because some people think they must make money by hook or crook.

And the people who worship them are their accomplices in such murders.

Social media users have lambasted First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo after she posted a goodwill message on Father’s day to her husband, President Akufo-Addo claiming he has ‘sleepless’ nights because of the country.

Madam Rebecca wrote, “Over the last four years having watched and prayed for my husband as father of the nation, I have had a close view of the sleepless nights, the countless overstretches and the physical strain to make this country work.”

She added, “President Akufo-Addo remains a father we all would be proud of.”

However, Ghanaians on social media did not take the goodwill message lightly as they questioned why cost of living continue to inflate amidst the President’s so called sleepless nights.

IMPRESSIVE: Ghanaian University Students Build AI Traffic Light With Cameras To Help Tackle Crime

Published

on

Some students of the Mechatronics and Cybersecurity Department of the Koforidua Technical University have successfully installed a locally manufactured traffic light with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help boost security and mitigate against crime on campus.

This came to the fore when the Vice Chancellor of the University called on the government to pay more attention and invest in the country’s technical universities to help them develop modern technological tools to help security agencies in fighting against crime.

In an interview with Citinews, Professor David Kofi Essuman explained the technology and rationale behind the new innovation.

“As part of requirements for final year students in the university, they take on projects which are normally supervised by their lecturers and some of these students came out with this project which is a locally built traffic light with cameras which is able to monitor everything within its scope and transfers live signals to the cybersecurity room on campus. The traffic has successfully been installed on campus and it is currently being used to check our security on campus”.

He continued, “Already, we have installed CCTV cameras and yet still, the robberies are going on so it means that we need to do more and advance more on that, to be able to pick up individuals who are involved in all these kinds of activities.”

“So it is our mission that, we are going to work in that direction to reduce crime in this country, and so we have just begun, and hope that as we travel along, we want to accept challenges. As a country, we need to ask ourselves where we want to be in the next five years, and what do we want to do with artificial intelligence?”.

“Once we have those concepts clear, it will guide us into how our research should go and how we can reduce the problems in this country. Crime is an issue, so we are going to focus on crime research and see how we can all help together to reduce and minimize the armed robbery that is happening in this country,” he concluded.
