Mahama Has No Credibility To Deliver On NDC Promises – Oppong Nkrumah

Published

on

The Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has questioned the credibility of former President John Mahama in achieving his party’s manifesto promises.

According to the Minister and Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayiribe, if Mr. Mahama’s track records are anything to go by, he cannot be trusted in fulfilling the National Democratic Congress’ manifesto promises.

“I think that the question of manifestos and promises must be looked at very simply from two perspectives. First of all, the credibility of the promises that are being made and then secondly the how. When you take the credibility, the good thing is that for the first time the two persons who are the frontrunners in this elections have both had the opportunity to occupy the office of President.

“So in looking at the credibility of the promises they are making, one ought to first look at their track records when they were in office and their positions on some of the matters they are speaking to today. This will help anybody who want to do an analysis to understand whether or not you can take any of these promises as credible,” he said.

His comments comes at the back of the NDC’s 2020 manifesto launch that took place on Monday. Dubbed, the “People’s Manifesto: Jobs, Prosperity and more”, the 143 paged document provides Mr. Mahama and the NDC an opportunity to be reelected into power on December 7, 2020.

However, Mr. Nkrumah stressed that the levels of mismanagement under the former President does not provide the NDC and it’s flagbearer an opportunity to govern the country after December.

“If you have somebody who during his period run down the Ghanaian economy, went to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout and as a result could not employ young people when they were graduating from school. You recall the graduate unemployment associations that were formed. You recall the cancellation of allowances because of economic crisis and the argument that even if they will vote against us they should vote against us. And today this person comes back and says that he is going to create one million jobs. Does it sound to anybody like a credible promise?,” he added.

It’s Not Enough To Extend The Voters’ Exhibition For Just Two Days – Mahama

Published

on

National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama has noted that the party has been vindicated by the Electoral Commission’s decision to extend the voter roll exhibition exercise.

Addressing the Press on Thursday September 24, the former president called on the EC to further extend the time to more than just two days to allow Ghanaians and stakeholders ensure they have their names on the register.

“It is obvious that the EC, despite the desperate public relations attempts, recognises its failures and the potential challenges to the electoral process emanating from its actions”.

“We knew that the decision to extend the exhibition period to Sunday, 27 September 2020, vindicates the position of the NDC.

“We, however, think that the two-day extension is inadequate to address the magnitude of issues that we have discovered that needs to be resolved”, the former President said.

The Eastern Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jerry Osei-Opoku, has promised to secure in excess of one million votes and win 30 out of 33 seats for the party in the December polls.

Addressing a press briefing at Atiwa West District in the Eastern Region on Wednesday, Mr Osei-Opoku said government has delivered in the past three-and-a-half years to earn votes from the the electorate.

He used the opportunity to slam the NDC for its double standards on the government flagship Free SHS policy.

“We can’t risk trusting the future of over 1.2 million children in their hands. They have shown time and again through their actions and utterances that they can’t sustain the Free SHS. They will either abolish Free SHS or collapse it like they did to NHIS.”
