Lawmaker for Builsa South, Clement Apaak has challenged the First and Second ladies to show evidence of refunded allowances instead of mere statements to the public.

Speaking on the Class Morning Show on Class91.3FM on Tuesday, 13 July 2021, he said if Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo and Samira Bawumia have decided to willingly refund allowances paid to them, then they must show proof of it.

“….. if she has chosen to refund the quarterly allowances that she has been receiving from 2017 to date to the public chest, that is her own choice”, Dr Apaak noted.

He said: “Nobody has spoken against that and if she decided to do so, it should be done transparently: let’s see the evidence to show that those monies have been refunded to the consolidated fund, then we know that what she said she will do she has done”, he told Kofii Oppong Asamoah.

The first lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo was the first to announce a rejection and refund of emoluments paid to her since 2017.

Second lady, Samira Bawumia also announced same on Tuesday.

A statement from her office on Tuesday July 13 said “Mrs Bawumia continues to be committed to the service of the nation.”

It added that she stays committed “to deliver humanitarian interventions and initiatives in the areas of health, education and economic development”.
