Law Students Refuse Bawumia’s Infrastructure Promise, Demands Policy Reforms

President of the Ghana School of Law SRC, Philemon Larh has told Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia that legal education needs policy reforms and not infrastructure.

Speaking on Starr FM, Mr Larh noted that Ghana’s legal school have had a backlog of students who are unable to complete there it will be necessary government prioritizes policy reforms instead of infrastructure which could be done later.

This comes after Dr Bawumia during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto launch promised to expand infrastructure in the Law School to increase intake of students.

But Mr Larh believes the immediate solution to the problems in the Law School is policy reforms and not infrastructure.

“What is imminent now are the issues of reforms. At the Ghana School of Law, for example, we have a backlog, people, as far back as 2014 who entered the school and cannot get out. So, we want a system that will allow people who will enter the Ghana School of Law to be able to get out,” he noted.

“You will realize that when the agitations happened last year for reforms in legal education, the deputy attorney-general indicated that the government had made efforts at getting the UPSA to accommodate about 1,000 students. UCC is also on record to have said they have space for students,” he added.
