The Chairperson of the EC, Madam Jean Mensa has been a subject of debate in the country for the past 3 days after it emerged that she may not mount the witness box to testify in the 2020 election petition currently before the supreme court.

Even the lawyers in the petition have argued extensively as to to why the EC Chairperson should or should not testify.

Counsel for the petitioner, lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata argued that the EC chairperson showed readiness for cross-examination when she filed a witness statement and supporting affidavits in response to the petitioner.

However,  the first respondent also argues that the rules of the court, specifically Order 38 (4)(4) of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, C.I. 47 allowed the EC, which is the first respondent in the petition, not to adduce evidence.

Reacting to this via Facebook, renowned investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni is of the opinion that the EC Chair is either being shielded from accountability or she is running away from defending her work.
