Prof. Stephen Asare, a fellow at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has backed Auditor General Daniel Domelevo’s decision to make change to locks to his office public.

According to him, the Auditor General is accountable to Ghanaians therefore there was nothing wrong with him telling the media the keys to his office had been changed.

The auditor general, who is currently on a 167 days leave realised the locks to his office had been changed after he went there to pick up some items.

A video capturing the scene somehow managed to get to the public domain. Persons in government have since slammed Daniel Domelovo for making the situation public.

In reaction, Prof. Stephen Asare on Joy News’ file programme quizzed if those criticising the Auditor General will do the same thing if the the President also had his locks changed while on leave.

“I don’t think people will be saying the same thing if the President went on leave and his office was locked or keys to his office were changed; they won’t be saying the same thing if it happened to the Speaker, the Chief Justice . . . we need a little bit of consistency. Why do you direct somebody to go on leave and then you go and change the locks?” he rhetorically asked.

He added, “It’s not good and we must condemn it”.
