Haruna Iddrisu, the former Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, has affirmed that he harbors no ill feelings regarding the decision by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to replace him as the leader of its caucus. Reflecting on his time in the role and the subsequent leadership changes, he expressed pride in his contributions and reiterated his unwavering dedication to the party’s goals and the nation at large.
Describing his tenure as a “rare opportunity to serve,” Haruna Iddrisu highlighted that his leadership decisions were consistently shaped by the collective will and interests of the NDC.
“In leadership, there are moments when decisions are made collectively by the party, and as a leader, you align with those decisions. I have no regrets or bitterness about being replaced. I had my time to serve, and I did so to the best of my ability,” he remarked.
He further stated that his replacement has not diminished his commitment to the party’s vision or his belief in its capacity to address the country’s challenges. “I campaigned wholeheartedly for the NDC because I was dissatisfied with the way the New Patriotic Party (NPP) managed the economy. My service to the NDC was an honor, and I hold no resentment,” Iddrisu added.
The NDC leadership, under the guidance of Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, recently made significant changes to the caucus leadership. Cassiel Ato Forson, a seasoned Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and former Ranking Member of the Finance Committee, was appointed to succeed Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader.
Other key changes included Armah Kofi Buah, MP for Ellembelle, taking over as Deputy Minority Leader, replacing James Klutse Avedzi, MP for Ketu North. Kwame Agbodza, MP for Adaklu, also assumed the role of Minority Chief Whip, succeeding Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase.
However, the positions of Ahmed Ibrahim and Comfort Doyo-Ghansah as First and Second Deputy Whips remained unchanged.
Despite these transitions, Haruna Iddrisu’s reaffirmation of his loyalty underscores his continued commitment to the NDC and its mission to serve the Ghanaian people.
