Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta says he doesn’t have the capacity to answer questions regarding the President’s domestic and foreign trips.

Mr Ofori-Atta was summoned to Parliament after North Tongu lawmaker, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa had alleged that President Akufo-Addo spent a whooping GH¢2.8 Million of taxpayers money on a private jet to his recent trips to France and Johannesburg.

In a post on Facebook, the legislator said the president decided to rent an aircraft that cost the Ghanaian taxpayer £15,000 an hour.

According to Starr FM, Mr Ablakwa confirmed his allegations; stressing he has evidence to back it should the Presidency deny.

He further added that the President left Accra for Paris on the 16th of May and then from Paris to Johannesburg and back to Accra on the 25th of May accumulating a total of 23 hours amounting to a colossal £345,000. At the current exchange, the amount totals GH¢2,828,432.80.

Being quizzed on the matter in Parliament, Wednesday July 21, the Ken Ofori-Atta said the National Security Minister is best placed to give the needed details of the cost of President Akufo-Addo’s recent trips to France, Belgium and South Africa.

“Mr. Speaker, the Presidents’ domestic and international travels are matters to do with National Security. Therefore, the National Security Minister is best placed to furnish this Honorable House with the details needed.

“To facilitate the safe coordination of the President’s travels, domestic and foreign, the Office of Government Machinery and the National Security Secretariat work together to achieve this,” Mr Ofori-Atta said.
